US Intelligence report says Iran nuclear sites only 'set back by months'; Trump disputes findings

A classified report by the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has concluded that the June 20 airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites set back its program by only a few months. The assessment, based on analysis by US Central Command, states that Iran’s core nuclear infrastructure at Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan remains largely intact. The findings contradict public statements made by US President Donald Trump, who has claimed that the sites were “completely and totally obliterated.”

The report found that while the entrances to the Fordo enrichment facility were destroyed by bunker-buster bombs, much of the underground facility survived the impact. It also noted that centrifuges used for uranium enrichment were likely moved before the attack and remain operational. Around 400 kg of uranium enriched to 60% purity was also reportedly moved from the sites prior to the strikes.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the intelligence report, calling it “flat-out wrong.” In a statement, she said, “Everyone knows what happens when you drop fourteen 30,000-pound bombs perfectly on their targets: total obliteration.” She added that the report was classified as “top secret” and was leaked by an “anonymous, low-level loser in the intelligence community.”

President Trump repeated his earlier claim that Iran’s nuclear facilities were “completely destroyed,” stating on Truth Social that the report was “fake” and aimed at discrediting the operation. He added that “the nuclear sites in Iran are completely destroyed” and referred to the airstrikes as “one of the most successful military strikes in history.”

Vice President JD Vance acknowledged in an interview that the whereabouts of Iran’s enriched uranium were unknown but maintained that depriving Iran of the ability to enrich it further or weaponize it counted as “mission success.” No public comments have been issued by the CIA or the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Israel has also not released an independent assessment of the impact of the strikes.
